Experimental Studies on the Effects of the Hyperbaric Oxygenation in the Management of Acute CO Poisoning

Abstract
This study was performed with 219 Albino rats and 40 rabbits to evaluate the efficiency of hyperbaric oxygenation on the acute carbon-monoxide poisoning. Conclusions obtained are as follow.
1. The hyperbaric oxygenation of more than 2 Atm. pressure showed far more effective results than that of 100%O©ü 1 Atm. pressure or 21%O©ü 1 Atm. pressure.
2. The fatality rate of the heavily carbon-monoxide poisoned animals was very high in the air & 100% O©ü 1 Atm. pressure recovery group and was very low in case of more than 2 Atm. pressure recovery group.
3. Rabbits showed to be more tolerble to the carbon-monoxide poisoning than rats & recovery time was much more rapid in rabbits.
4. For the prevention of oxygen poisoning & oxygen explosion, oxygen concentration around 50% and more than 3 Atm. pressure is recommendable for the practical application.
5. The management of carbon-monoxide poisoning with hyperbaric oxygenation proved to be one of the most effective method by this study.
