Experimental Studies on the Effects of the Hyperbaric Oxygenation in the Management of Acute CO Poisoning

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was performed with 219 Albino rats and 40 rabbits to evaluate the efficiency of hyperbaric oxygenation on the acute carbon-monoxide poisoning. Conclusions obtained are as follow.
1. The hyperbaric oxygenation of more than 2 Atm. pressure showed far more effective results than that of 100%O₂ 1 Atm. pressure or 21%O₂ 1 Atm. pressure.
2. The fatality rate of the heavily carbon-monoxide poisoned animals was very high in the air & 100% O₂ 1 Atm. pressure recovery group and was very low in case of more than 2 Atm. pressure recovery group.
3. Rabbits showed to be more tolerble to the carbon-monoxide poisoning than rats & recovery time was much more rapid in rabbits.
4. For the prevention of oxygen poisoning & oxygen explosion, oxygen concentration around 50% and more than 3 Atm. pressure is recommendable for the practical application.
5. The management of carbon-monoxide poisoning with hyperbaric oxygenation proved to be one of the most effective method by this study.
